CB Chair Election
Proto-collaboration board meeting
Present: part of the proposal team, 38 institute representatives
- Introduction by Roman Poeschl on the news concerning DRD6 and on the CB chair election procedure. Upon question, it was pointed out that remote participation in the Collaboration Meeting is not encouraged but possible for those who cannot make it to CERN.
- Presentation of Roberto Ferrari, as a candidate for the CB Chair
Q&A session
Q: concerning rules writing: how do proceed efficiently
A: up to now the proposal team has prepared a draft for the governance rule, which will be submitted to the CB. For other rules (e.g. publications) I guess that small teams of people will be appointed to elaborate a proposal, to be
approved by the CB.
Q: How to ensure that the project will be "merged" in a real collaboration
A: In my understanding, WGs, WPs and the technical coordination will (also)
have the mandate to identify and exploit synergies among different groups.
Q: What about common funds
A: Discussions in the proposal team have not identified a preferred solution to suggest, since there are examples of successful collaborations both with and without common funds. If proposed, anyway they will be minimal. The DRDC chair is in favour, for example, of covering at least administrative expenses, even though different solutions can be found
(e.g. appointment of members of the collaboration).
Q: Ideas to increase the amount of resources for the projects
A: The DRD itself won't provide additional funds for the research projects. On the other hand, being included in the DRD6 should facilitate projects to get additional funds from their funding agencies. Moreover, the exploitation of synergies should result in an optimised usage of resources
Q: Relations between CB, CB chair and spokesperson
A: The model is that of wide collaborations like, for example, ATLAS. The spokesperson is the representative of the collaboration and the coordinator of the executive bodies. The CB is the legal body of the collaboration. The CB chair is analogous to the parliament leader, and he will organise the interaction among the CB and the other collaboration
bodies.
