Fire detector layout in TCC8/ECN3

Europe/Zurich

Attendees: C. Ahdida, M. Averna, L.S. Esposito, G. Humphreys, G. Lerner, M. Dole, D.O. Wasik

Discussion:

  • MASD are used to detect smoke in LHC tunnels
  • MASD used at PS and LHC which has shown very good experience

  • LASD problems with pumps -> dust and then alarms

  • B911 air from upstream TCC8 part can be exhausted in b912
  • Fire detection layout: only above-ground placement locations proposed -> For the moment no further studies from WP8 are needed
  • EN-AA and PMT – any eventual separation between underground and above ground detection system main controller (one only or several CIEs – control and indicating equipment) to be discussed between the parties

Action:

  • Michael:

    • Share location of the fire detectors for MASD at PS/LHC layout to verify with current radiation levels. (For SPS, detectors are on surface.)

    • Share feedback on in operation of components (detectors, electronics, and pumping)  e.g. spurious trips, maintenance requirement (access, MTTR, MTBF), components availability (as the system was first installed more than 20 year sago)
    • Follow up on the requirements/assumptions discussed during the meeting with HSE-OHS/FRS. Share the slide and organize a meeting with HSE/OHS/FRS FIRIA by end of July.

      • Fire detection response time – it will be established in coordination with HSE and EN-AA based on the selection technology selection and credible fire scenario retained. It will be confirmed by performance and type testing during commissioning.
    • Provide info on sizes to WP4/5

  • Gemma: Provide Boris the position of the separation walls for the target complex area in TCC8 to update the slides

  • WP4/WP5: Check the integration of the proposed fire detector location within WP4/WP5.
