The EPITA project proposal is a consortium of world-class excellence and multidisciplinarity, comprising 43 beneficiaries from 16 countries and international organisations, with a total budget of €21+ million, funded by a €10 million EU contribution and €11 million in matching funds. EPITA aims at integrating a series of technological R&D initiatives into a coordinated and vision-driven programme, aligned with the established roadmap implementation of accelerator RIs.

The project 9 Technological Work Packages are structured around key Thematic Areas - Accelerating Systems, Magnets and Beamlines, and Frontier Technologies —which are supported by 3 dedicated Work Packages for management, communication, outreach, and co-creation with industry. Its goal is to advance breakthrough technologies in conventional, superconducting and laser-driven acceleration, in high-temperature superconducting and permanent accelerator magnets, and in the development, additive-manufacturing and processing of advanced materials for accelerators.

This structured approach embraces advanced co-creation with a broad spectrum of European industries. Through this, EPITA fosters a resilient European accelerator ecosystem extending beyond traditional RIs and leverages a portfolio of 22 prototypes of innovative accelerator technologies, enabling a new generation of performant and sustainable accelerators. The project provides the tools to maximise the impact of these technologies and align with the strategies of the user communities, strengthening Europe's competitive edge and fostering a robust co-creation environment.

EPITA’s activities have been carefully selected in consultation with user communities, with priority given to areas not covered by existing projects and where added value can be achieved through transnational and cross-disciplinary collaboration. As a long-term strategic effort, the project will advance selected activities initiated under previous collaborative projects. This ensures that breakthrough developments are rapidly translated into practical applications, benefiting all stakeholders, and enabling a synergetic and resource-efficient evolution of European accelerator-based RIs.
