Scope
HL-LHC IT String Day VI – Event Description
During the HL-LHC IT String Day V in 2025 (event link), a review was conducted on the lessons learned from the installation, component interconnections, individual system and short-circuit tests. The event also covered a report on the project status, as well as safety aspects related to the remaining installation work and the upcoming cold powering operation period.
HL-LHC IT String Day VI will begin with a general introduction revisiting the recommendations from the previous IT String Day. It will also provide a status update on the project, results on the RUN1 and a brief summary of the next steps. Additionally, the session will highlight the organization of operations, detailing key roles and responsibilities that were implemented for the Operation phase.
The main objectives of the event are outlined as follows:
a. Present lessons learned from recent activities, including the
- Repair performed on the N line and the feed forward to the HL-LHC. Remaining validation tests that could still be valuable?
- Cryogenic Commissioning and operation, thermal Cycle after Run1.
- Warm powering systems (crow-bars, decoupling, stability, interlock logic).
- Cold Powering of the Circuits.
- Quench detection and protection systems (thresholds, instrumentation, commissioning strategy,...).
We will address the nonconformities detected in the IT String during the cold operation.
b. Report on the current status of test procedures for the IT String Hardware Commissioning, including the readiness of associated software tools (supervisory, analysis…) to be used as well for the HL-LHC HWC.
c. Describe remaining planned activities related to the String Validation Program during Run2.
d. Discuss the present strategy and planning for dismantling.
Advisors nominated by the HL-LHC Project Leader and the TE Department Head will be invited to provide their feedback and recommendations to the Management and share their comments with the HL-LHC WP16 core team.
