FCC-FS EPOL group meeting 39
The FCC technical and financial feasibility study comprises a work package (EPOL) on precision determination of the centre of mass energy at FCCee. using resonant depolarisation of the beams, in conjunction with precise measurement of the energy spread and other parameters using physics events in the detectors, and other beam diagnostics in particular to control the collision parameters. Specific equipment involves polarimeters for both beams, polarisation wigglers, and depolarising RF kickers. The possible mono-chromatization of the beams in view of a measurement of the e+ e- —> H (125) process will also be studied and special requirements investigated.
Short group meetings are foreseen at 15:00 on Friday.
G. Wilkinson presents tasks for the pre-TDR phase.
Concerning the polarized positrons D. Barber suggests looking at the work done for linear colliders.
For the polarimeter raises the question if FSP should also be investigated.
W. Hofle comments that the layout and optics team is working on GHC vs LCC optics including locations for the depolarizer. He will get a PhD student at the end of this year. Depolarizing colliding bunches must not lead to beam blow-up.
J. Wenninger comments that Y. Wu is for now only simulating a LEP-like depolarizer. G. Wilkinson comments that a small chat should be held to organize the work required.
A. Korsun comments that updates on monochromatization are planned to be presented towards the end of summer.
J. Wenninger presents xsuite polarization benchmarking with LEP. F. Zimmermann suggests that also changing the kicker phase could also be suitable. A. Martens comments that J. Tamazirt is evaluating a fast extraction method. E. Torrences suggests also looking at other energies for LEP. F. Zimmermann comments that the HEB booster ramp was calculated by Z. Duan analytically. Xsuite gives almost 100 keV shift compared to the LEP results. I. Koop comments that since the spin was not fully flipped, the scan velocity was too fast. 1 simulation takes about 8h (140k turns 27km).
R. Kieffer presents thoughts were the polarimeter in the LCC could be installed.
