24th International Workshop on Advanced Computing and Analysis Techniques in Physics Research

The 24th International Workshop on Advanced Computing and Analysis Techniques in Physics Research (ACAT2027) will be held from Friday, March 5th, to Wednesday, March 10th, 2027, at Tokyo City University’s Setagaya Campus. The workshop will be jointly organized by the International Center for Elementary Particle Physics (ICEPP) at the University of Tokyo and the Advanced Research Laboratory (ARL) of Tokyo City University.

This edition of ACAT, held in Japan for the first time in 24 years since ACAT03 at KEK, builds on the legacy of AIHENP and the long-standing ACAT International Workshop Series. ACAT2027 will serve as a platform for exchanging ideas on artificial intelligence, machine learning, high-performance and scalable computing, and advanced analysis techniques that are driving scientific progress across various disciplines.

Highlights: this edition of ACAT features three additions to our normal programme of Plenary and Parallel tracks. Firstly, there will be a Nobel Symposium featuring a Nobel Laureate keynote speaker and a round-table discussion. Secondly, we are offering the opportunity for community-organised Mini-Symposia on focused topics. Thirdly, we are introducing lightning talks that will give poster presenters an opportunity to give a 2-minute pitch for their work during plenary sessions.

AI and Advanced Computing from Particles to the Cosmos

Fundamental physics is undergoing a major shift, with artificial intelligence and advanced computing becoming essential tools for scientific discovery. Across particle, nuclear, astrophysics, and cosmology research, these methods are changing how theory, experiments, and observations are connected. The workshop will bring together researchers in particle physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics, and cosmology, along with scientists working in gravitational-wave science and accelerator physics, to explore these developments across all scales, from the smallest particles to the largest structures in the universe, through three parallel tracks and plenary talks.

In experiments and observations, AI is pushing the boundaries of precision, efficiency, and responsiveness. Advanced reconstruction, real-time event selection, intelligent calibration, and automated data-quality monitoring are becoming essential components of modern research facilities. From collider detectors to neutrino observatories and gravitational-wave instruments, AI-based methods are helping improve sensitivity while managing the growing scale and complexity of data.

These developments are closely connected to advances in computing. Heterogeneous architectures, high-performance and distributed computing, edge and real-time processing, and specialized hardware such as GPUs, FPGAs, TPUs, and ASICs are shaping how algorithms are designed and deployed. These technologies support a broad range of applications, from real-time processing and event reconstruction in particle and nuclear physics to large-scale simulations of stars, galaxies, gravitational waves, and the evolution of the universe. This shared computational landscape highlights the growing connections between the physics of the smallest scales and the largest structures in the cosmos. Digital twins, foundation models, and autonomous control systems are also opening new possibilities for more adaptive, efficient, and intelligent research infrastructures.

Nobel Symposium

The programme will feature a Nobel Symposium centered around a Nobel Laureate keynote speaker and a round-table discussion, providing an opportunity for interaction with a leading figure in the field and also a specialist of AI.

Mini-Symposia

For the first time in ACAT, the 2027 edition will feature a series of Mini-Symposia addressing timely and emerging topics at the intersection of physics, computing, and artificial intelligence. These sessions will bring together a small number of speakers and a convener to lead the discussion, fostering interaction across communities and disciplines. The Mini-Symposia will be proposed and selected through the conference’s Call for Abstracts, allowing the programme to reflect the interests and emerging directions of the ACAT community.

Abstract Submission

Abstract submission will open via Indico. Important dates, contribution types (talks/posters), and instructions for authors will be announced on the conference website.

Registration Procedure

Pre-registration is now open. You’ll receive a notification once official registration opens. Here’s how to proceed after official opening:

  1. Fill out the registration form on Indico: Go to Registration
  2. Follow the link provided to complete the online payment.
  3. Your registration status will be marked as Complete once payment has been processed.

 

Once the formal registration procedure is finalized, you will be able to proceed to register for the event. The registration process will include base conference fees and the option to book accommodation with arranged block price reservation.

Remote Participation

The workshop is planned primarily as an in-person event. There will be no option to remotely present talks or posters at ACAT2027 as in the previous editions. However we will provide remote listening to all plenary and parallel talks via Zoom on a best effort basis free of charge.
