LCEB meeting: Selection of a new line of IP phones

This meeting is organised for information of the LCEB and is also open to non-LCEB participants, who should register.

Pawel Grzywaczewski presents the current status of the selection of new IP phones for CERN.

Several questions are raised by the audience:

Q (Samuele Kaplun): What can be the level of customization on these new phones ?

A: Basic, mostly automation on configurable keys

Q (Joel Closier): Why planning training sessions in September?

A: Training will be also available after the phones are distributed through the stores, but the service goals is to limit the number of physical phones, in favor of softphones

Simone Campana comments that the two models look relevant, and that training and local support should be given to the testers.

Q (Joel closier): Is the device cabling better compare to the previous models.

A: Yes, connections are made from the back of the devices without bending the cables.

Q (Johan Bjorklund): Will the broken phones be replaced or mended ?

A: They will be replaced

Q (Achille Petrilli): How will people on analogue phones be able to test the new models without permanently moving to IP telephony ?

A: Their numbers can be redirected to the new number for the duration of the test.

Q (Joel Closier): Will the local stocks be replaced by new models ?

A: No. Local stocks of phones can still be distributed as the models are fully working and supported.

Samuele Kaplun comments that the phones should have a minimum set of characteristics:

• Good loudspeakers (ok)
• Possibility to connect headsets (ok, although it is commented that the preferred solution in this case is using softphones)
• Easy to get the list of previous calls (ok)
• Easy PIN dialing (no PIN on Lync phones)
• DTMF activated by default (ok)
