Polarquest and the CERN Yachting Club invite you to an evening on Weather Routing with Bernard Patusch, on Wednesday 14 January at 19:30 in the CERN Council Chamber.
Weather routing is a key element of modern offshore sailing, combining boat performance, weather forecasts, ocean conditions, and numerical models to determine the safest and most efficient route at sea. This talk will introduce the principles of weather routing, the use of forecast models and GRIB data, and the tools sailors rely on to navigate across the world’s oceans. It will include videos and a routing exercise based on Octopus, as well as a discussion on a real life experience of sea survival

Le routage météo est au cœur de la navigation hauturière moderne. En combinant les performances du bateau, les prévisions météorologiques, les conditions océaniques et les modèles numériques, il permet de définir la route la plus sûre et la plus efficace en mer. Cette présentation introduira les principes du routage météo et les outils utilisés par les navigateurs pour traverser les océans.
