Seeking Hidden Valleys / Dark Sectors at the LHC 1h

Many theoretically motivated models have hidden valleys/dark sectors as an essential feature, while others offer them as an optional but reasonable possibility. Their particles, which carry no Standard Model quantum numbers, may have small cross sections, and could manifest in a variety of different signatures, sometimes evading standard search strategies. Meanwhile, particles that carry both quantum numbers in the Standard Model and in a hidden gauge group can behave unusually and can also evade standard methods. Limits on both of these classes of particles are often much weaker than on classic targets. As Run 3 begins, it's a good moment to remind ourselves about phenomena that may still lie hidden in existing data sets, and to consider how to prioritize future searches for them.
