SuShi CCT status meeting - 2 layer shield manufacturing status
Participants: Dani, Peter, Friedrich, Louise, Jan
Excused : Miro
Publications:
- SUST paper; positive feedback.
- Development of wax impregnation will become separate paper (planned for 2024). Low priority.
- QWS write up status (Dani to check with Martin). Martin will try to derive some quantitative parameters from the FREIA test, but not before February. Review status early March.
Magnetic measurement probes
- Fixation and alignment of Delrin support with Hall sensors discussed.
Shields:
- 2 layer tube:
-- Half moon support to made of copper (for thermal expansion reasons). During the forming of the shield around it, insert a stainless steel tie rod to assure rigidity. Use silver plated stainless steel screw. Add vent holes from end of screw holes to central aperture of former AND use vented screws.
-- Once folded, screen can be glued to former and between layers.
-- Louise will contact the DSS and SY/STI workshop to see if it can be made in-house to speed up the manufacture. Former to be made outside CERN, assembly of shields by Robert.
UoM multi-layer material status.
- Oven next to rolling mill installed.
- Will do test run with pure copper.
- New company identified to do rolling instead of Freiberg. Trail planned.
MgB2
- Miro to inform Giovanni about the putting on-hold of the order. Open action.
Outstanding:
- Update PSI if they can use the circular NbTi/Nb/Cu shield to modify it into small diametre, thick walled, tube. Jan to send him an email in February. Dani agreed to give the green light to PSI to proceed modifying the round multilayer tube
- Writing for results of HTS tape sample test by M. Eisterer taken from the round tube tested in 2017. Make sure the sample wasn't damaged when it was removed from the tube (Friedrich). No more news. Friedrich will reach out to M. Eisterer to keep him updated about our doubt of the sample quality.
