Description
Abstract: The lecture describes the principal material properties of silicon and the measures necessary to use it as detection device for charged particles. The structure of position sensors (tracker) will be described as well as the manufacturing processes. The lecture then briefly touches the basic performance of these devices and closes with historical examples of full detector systems. The second part concentrates on sensor testing for basic evaluation as well as full quality assurance during period of mass production. Several examples of “what can go wrong” will be given.
