Description
There are numerous applications at CERN based on Oracle Forms. Traditionally these applications have run in a 2-tier client-server environment, however with the release of Forms 6i it became possible to run Oracle Forms in a 3-tier Web-based environment. Client-server environment is no longer a possibility since the release of Forms 9i; therefore it is mandatory that Forms 9i applications run in a 3-tier Web-based environment. At the end of December 2004 Oracle ended its support of Forms 6i. It is therefore essential that pre Forms 9i applications be migrated or replaced by an alternative technology. The speakers will describe the basic architecture of the new 3-tier environment, the steps required to migrate to Forms 9i (including common pitfalls to be avoided), and the advantages and disadvantages of the new Web-based environment. Finally, the speakers will also mention some alternatives to Oracle Forms.
