Minutes of JZCapa ZDC R&D meeting 7th January 2020
===========================================

Present: Chad Lantz, Daniel Mac Lean, Matthias Perdekamp, Aric Tate, Nico Santiago, Michael Murray, Peter Steinberg, Zvi Citron, Ravenda Karanam, Yuval Bashan

Update from Kansas: Michael Murray
--------------------------------------------------
Michael is working on export control stuff to get the PMTs sent to Ben Gurion. For the problem with the short TAXN he thought it would be a good idea to have a simulation of EM+Bran+Had1 that fits in 40cm
>>> Todo: Aric will look at the energy resolution of a truncated ZDC.

Michael is happy to go to CERN to discuss the problem of the short TAXN. Peter suggested that we have a joint meeting of us with our technical coordinators.  After the meeting Peter  talked the forward coordinator in ATLAS who thought it best if the experiments acted independently.  The WG8 meeting is on 21st of January which is difficult for teaching faculty but not impossible.
>>> Todo: Michael will reach out to his TC for advice and how to talk to WG8.

Zvi may also be able to come to CERN for this meeting.

Update from Ben-Gurion:  Yuval Bashan
===============================
For the Winston Cones t is hard to bend reflective surfaces. Yuval has found a company that can make a highly reflective surface using 3 moulds. Reflective surface will be silver. They prefer the smoothest possible surface for the mold. Would a rough service help us? Could we introduce a grain structure or perhaps as Fresnal like structure on the surface.
>>> Todo: Chad  see if a grainy surface could help.

An Illinois company claims that they can use a CNC machine that is then polished to 5 um.

For the test at FNAL they will use clear quartz rods.
>>> UIUC can send some rods but they may decide to buy some themselves.
For EM section they will use 26 rods per cartridge.

Scaffloding needs to hold both modules and RPD. Needs to hold EM + hadronic + RPD. It is important that all modules be well aligned. Another question is weather we want to test 2 RPDs at the same time.

>>> Todo: Urbana needs to give a mechanical design for their RPD.
>>> Todo: Maryland decide if you are sending existing RPD and what will be the mechanical package.   Will Maryland make a "Run 4" narrow RPD?

>>> Ben Gurion produce an overall schedule of what they need for test beam.

Simulation Aric Tate:
================
Aric has been simulating the shower containment for a "Run 3" type ZDC. He has customizable set up for  both Run 3 and Run 4. But the BRAN in the two cases still missing. He  will simulate a  400 mm long setup and see what the energy resolution is for 2.5TeV neutrons.
