Deciphering AdS/CFT

Europe/Zurich
Chemin du Vernex 9, 1865 Les Diablerets
Matthias Gaberdiel (ETHZ - ETH Zurich), Rajesh Gopakumar (ICTS-TIFR)
Description

A fine grained microscopic understanding of the AdS/CFT correspondence in the tensionless limit (i.e. free Yang-Mills) opens the possibility for a detailed derivation of the duality giving new insights. This would likely require a synthesis of various strands of thinking including integrability, pure spinor and other worldsheet techniques, higher spin symmetries, twistor and topological string descriptions, celestial holography and somewhat further afield,  quantum information ideas. Recently, the case of AdS3/CFT2 has been understood in quite some detail. In particular, a solvable world-sheet theory has been identified that has been argued to be exactly equivalent to the dual free symmetric orbifold CFT. While some of the features of this low dimensional example may be specific to the AdS3/CFT2 setting, there are now good reasons to believe that at least some of these ideas will also apply to the proposed generalisation to AdS5/CFT4 and also mesh well with the various strands of thinking mentioned above. The aim of the meeting is to bring the proponents of these various ideas together to try and make progress in deciphering the AdS/CFT correspondence for weakly coupled Yang-Mills theory.
