AIDAinnova WP12 - General Meeting

Introduction

  • meeting schedule and next meting
    • agreed to have a 8 weeks schedule
    • next meeting Aug 26
    • try to have a report from every task
      • potentially from deputy if the primary task leader isn’t available

Turnkey Software

  • Key4hep highlights

    • k4simDelphes, k4MarlinWrapper
    • migration ongoing at FCC, CEPC, MuonColl
      • Padua working on muon collider an transition to Key4hep
  • PODIO/EDM4hep highlights

    • started work on schema evolution
    • many other features/improvements
    • open issue for EDM4hep: how to best handle (generic) user data
  • DDDigi

    • work started (non trivial task)
    • would need a ‘customer’
  • INFN

    • looked into CMSSW about heterogenous computing parts
  • IHEP

    • also started work on heterogenous computing
    • S.Blyth will start to work there
  • For DDDigi customer we think FCC were interested - to follow-up with Markus (and Geri, Clement)

    • also plan to have a dedicated DD4hep meeting on this

Simulation

  • Witek replacing Anna until mid Sep.
  • Manchester
    • started work to port Lamarr to generic HEP
  • IJClab
    • work yet to be started
  • DESY
    • progress w/ angular conditioning GANs
  • CERN
    • plan to hire a project associate for sim task
    • work on comparing inference libraries LWTNN and ONNX
    • VAE w/ conditioning on calorimeter technology
    • started new forum ML4Sim https://indico.cern.ch/category/13860/

Track Reconstruction

  • some work/discussion started on using DDRec tracking surfaces in ACTS
  • detray is targeting heterogeneous resources, will be able to be templated for your environment
    • this will be the connection point for navigation and propagation, for Key4hep
  • INFN
    • working on simulation of uRwell gaseous detectors
    • need to understand the impact of the diamond layer coating, linked to hardware study
  • IJCLab
    • looking into what prevents further ACTS experimentation in Belle 2
      • need support for detectors that are not surface-based (CDC for Belle 2, also of interest to sPHENIX)
    • hired PhD to work on GPU computing
    • job offer for post doc (mainly centered on GPU and ML activities)

Particle Flow Reconstruction

  • dual readout calorimeter (IDEA)
    • started to adopt EDM4hep for the simulation
    • writing two collections (scint/cherenkov)
  • APRIL PFA
    • including timing in PFA clustering
    • some inspiration from CMS HGCal reconstruction
  • DUNE near detector
    • adapting LArTPC/ILC algorithms to ND
    • plans to hire 0.5 post doc at University of Cambridge
