CERN-WMO Meeting #1

Europe/Zurich

Many thanks for reaching out to us, it was wonderful to have our introductory meeting on the 18th of February to understand the new structure, organisation and governance of WMO that you elucidated. It is with great pleasure that we look forward to explore common grounds on which we could possibly build our future cooperation towards our common goals. In that spirit we would very much appreciate receiving Secretary General Prof. Petteri Tallas, Chief Scientist Dr. Juerg Luterbacher and the WMO delegation at CERN along with you, to show our research facilities and discuss items of potential mutual interest as mentioned at our meeting, some of which are:

  • CERN Organisation & Governance
  • IT and data management at CERN, OPENLAB, KT
  • Technologies of potential mutual interest in line with UN-SDGs IF-CERN-TECH --- include brief presentation when they come?
  • Explore potential public-private partnerships with likes of Google, Amazon, IBM (particularly for big data if we can elucidate a program, we could connect with Google CH?)
  • Water, Oceans and Climate,Weather forecasting Data management IT-collaboration, early warning systems R&D with our tech, a collaboration a la UNOSAT to be explored --- Here we want to connect the CPLI if possible, for a project with CERN & Society ?)
  • Global earth observation systems and synergies with IPCC for Climate Science, Greenhouse gases and SDGs
  • STEM Education and Outreach (synergies with UNITAR / IAEA / Eiroforum towards making a unique program based on CERN - Ana?)

Please note, we do have an ICA signed 26/8/2010 that we may wish to discuss and consolidate together.

We look forward to welcoming you at CERN and establishing strong relations for cooperation not only in the above mentioned areas, but for fostering greater coordination and collaboration.
