Description
Soft-collinear effective theory has been widely applied in studies of jet and jet substructure observables in proton proton collisions. It provides a useful tool to construct factorization and resum large logarithms. However, the same techniques cannot be simply applied to study jets in heavy ion collisions, due to two reasons: the jet spacetime structure dependence in the in-medium evolution and medium response. In this talk, I will explain these two reasons. Then I will discuss simple cases where SCET can be applied to calculate particularly designed observables, together with the help of the open quantum system framework. These observables are constructed mainly from the hard part of the jet and thus the contribution from the medium response is expected to be suppressed. Finally, I will switch the topic and discuss a computationally cheap implementation of the medium response, which is important for many jet and jet substructure observables in heavy ion collisions.
