The BE Experimental Area Group together with the AMBER Collaboration, the EP-SME and SY-RF groups, as well as the CERN TH department jointly organize a 6h-workshop following the 6th Amber Physics Workshop in fall 2021. The workshop has the support of the Physics Beyond Colliders Study Group.

This workshop aims to define the physics case(s) for the phase 2 physics measurement goals of the AMBER Collaboration, present the status of the currently available RF-separated beamline studies and review the present technical limitations, with the goal to define the next steps towards a feasibility study. The workshop will aim to:

1. Summarize the physics motivations for phase 2 of the AMBER Collaboration physics measurement goals, e.g.:

  • High-energy Kaon beams
  • High-energy antiproton beams
  • Medium-energy, very intense, RF-separated Kaon-beams

2. Establish the beamline requirements and specifications derived from the physics case(s), distinguishing between ideal specifications and minimal requirements:

  • Operational and experimental targets (desired run start/readiness/run schedule)
  • Key beamline parameters:
    • Particle type(s) and charge(s)
    • Energy
    • Purity
    • Intensity (range)
    • Time structure
    • Acceptance
  • Needed instrumentation [e.g. for particle identification, etc.]
  • Experimental area requirements

3. Present an overview of existing beamline studies and known operational limitations:

  • K12/P42 RF-separated beams simulation conclusions
  • M2 simulation status
  • RF status (available technology, on-going developments, technical constraints-)
  • Input from experience for RF-separated beams worldwide

4. Establish a common plan of studies and actions to be carried out to define a prioritized list of physics targets with related facility/beam specifications and to establish feasibility. Discuss required technical developments, including the potential for further international collaboration for the technical aspect of RF-separated beam development (RF, beamlines). Define the needed resources and possible timeline.

A short written summary of the workshop should be released as a PBC report.
