- If you want access to the CERN talk from the GDB on the 8th September, which was deleted due to NDA reasons, please email me.
- There was general agreement that CentOS stream will not be appropriate for all use cases and some examples were given where changes between point release had broken things (i.e. problems that were caused by CentOS Streams release method).  There are also concerns with the support lifetime of CentOS.
- Alastair had spoken to other Tier-1 sites to gauge their thoughts and most of them had some agreement with a commercial provider for certain key systems (e.g. Parallel File Systems, Tape systems).  There didn’t seem to be a massive concern about using CentOS Stream for other things.
- Some sites (notably Imperial and ECDF) have move production systems to CentOS8 before its end of life was changed.  They will need to migrate off of these by 31st December 2021.
- RAL and Glasgow have both purchased 3rd Gen AMD EPYC CPUs (7763 and 7513 respectively), they are not fully supported on CentOS7 and we will be looking for another OS to install on them.
- The was general agreement that one of Rocky or Alma Linux will be the best choice to use for those not wanting to use CentOS Stream.  It should be “relatively” easy to move between the two, so currently if sites want to try either, they should just pick whatever is best for their use case.
- We agreed to have another meeting in around 2 months to discuss this again.  By then some sites should have genuine experience and plans with other Operating systems.
