MINUTES MP3 MEETING of 29 September, 2010
PRESENT: Arjan Verweij; Michele Modena; Knud Dahlerup-Petersen; Andrea Musso; Nuria Catalan Lasheras; Matteo Solfaroli Camillocci; Hugues Thiesen; Bernhard Auchmann; Edward Nowak; Reiner Denz; Adriaan Rijllart; Jens Christoph Steckert (partially)
MINUTES:
· MP3-CCC Status for week 38-39. See attached slides (as presented by Nuria at LMC in the afternoon). To be noted:
o Several trips of IPQ. We know that due to the circuit cabling configuration Q9 and Q10 (but also others IPQ) are very sensible to “pick-up” spurious signals. Reiner underline as in some cases trips seems due to start-up of some “heavy” machine (injectors equipment? Other?)
o Trip of RU.L4: it was fully predictable. Reiner mentioned the possibility to have an automatic routine to reset it in 2011. For the moment we will go on with some “pop-up” system to remind to ask the reset” and Reiner suggest also to eventually increase the threshold to 200 mV as for the RU.R4.
o Trip of RQD.A81 caused probably by a wrong reset procedure (done at not stable conditions)
o Stalled crates due probably to software problem. A firmware update should solve or ameliorate it.
o (Reiner): from March 2010 we had ~ 30 QH power supply problem (the famous weak component in the switches). 8 happened during technical stops.
o The interlocking software to go into slow power abort when critical quench heater power supplies are lost, is almost ready for implementation. Arjan informed about the “sequence” action that will cause automatically a Slow Power Abort after 15 minute of problem arise: this delay time was negotiated with AB-OP.
· Bernhard presentation on QH problem on MQXA
See slides.
- Hugues proposal: why not to investigate the possibility to increase the charge on the capacitor bank for this 2 cases? Reiner comment that for two cases only could be in fact simpler. Hardware preparation and test in lab will be needed. To check component (capacitors) availability. The solution of decreasing the voltage and hence the energy will be faster to implement, but would need to be tested if the beam energy is increased.
· Knud presentation on proposed list of intervention during Xmas break
See slide
Arjan asked if it is planned to upgrade the dump resistor at the same time. Knud answer that official decision was not taken yet.
Hugues asked to add a column with commissioning test required after the intervention. He also presented a list that he will ask to be filled concerning the test expected for the 2011 restart for all circuits families.
Nuria underlined as for BB connected with DFB that will effectively see a thermal cycle due to warm-up, we have to plan at least HiPot tests since important relative displacements between components of the line will occur.
The baseline “Yearly QH Discharge Test” must be also added.
Nuria underlined the importance of the MP3 Circuit Commisioning Procedure revision to be started urgently.
· Jens presentation on BLM-QPS Test
See slides
As it is shown, no conclusion can be done: the signal was evidently to low to trigger quenches. This is strange because calculation predict that we were at a factor 3 over the expected threshold for quenches. A very fast loss could however be missed by the electronics.
More information will probably arrive from the test planned for the next weekend with a more intense beam and with circulating beam.
