Feature Screening : Ghost Particle
Ghost Particle is a science documentary that follows international efforts to understand the origin of the universe by studying its smallest parts with some of the world’s largest experiments. Neutrinos are invisible, essentially massless particles that pass through matter like ghosts. They behave in peculiar quantum ways but their identity-changing behaviour may hold the key to unlock big questions about the origin of the universe. How then to study such elusive chameleons?
Based at CERN, and with visits to other major laboratories in the US and Japan, Ghost Particle offers an inside view to how some of the world’s best minds set out to do the seemingly impossible: design a machine to detect the undetectable.
Screening followed by a discussion with Director Geneva Guerin and film characters.

Ghost Particle est un documentaire scientifique qui part à la découverte des efforts de recherche internationaux mis en œuvre pour remonter à l'origine de l'univers à travers la compréhension de ses composants les plus petits, étudiés avec certaines des plus grandes expériences du monde. Les neutrinos sont des particules invisibles, pratiquement sans masse, capables de traverser la matière tel des fantômes. Ils se comportent de manière insolite sur le plan quantique, or leur faculté de changer d'identité pourrait cacher la réponse aux grandes questions sur l'origine de l'univers. Mais comment étudier ces caméléons élusifs ?
En suivant le travail du CERN et à travers des visites à d'autres groupes de recherche majeurs aux USA et au Japon, Ghost Particle décortique comment des sommités mondiales ont entrepris ce qui est a priori impossible: construire une machine pour saisir l'insaisissable.
