The 2022 CERN Winter Campus, is the seventh edition of a series of schools dedicated to Information Technology and Computing. Started in 2014, this international event brings a new dimension to CERN’s scientific and cultural activities. Over 4 intensive days, experts from around CERN come together to meet with future engineers and scientists in a program of scientific and technological dissemination and cultural exchange.
At CERN, we believe that scientific curiosity is an essential part of being human and we wish to share the excitement and enthusiasm of discovery with as wide a public as possible. CERN shows what people can achieve when they come together for a common purpose. The basic technology of the LHC was impossible when the project was conceived, yet today it runs routinely. Such grand challenges are just a normal part of life at CERN, and we want to bring all our expertise and share it with the community.
This year, the school will take place in AGH University of Science and Technology between the 14th and the 17th of November 2022.
Our target audience is primarily final year BSc students and MSc students in the field of Computer Science or related, who want to know more about the latest technologies and industry trends in IT. We also have some spots reserved for recent graduates.
The core programme will consist of 25 hours of sessions, delivered in English from specialists in their respective fields, covering topics such as:
- Information Technology
- Grid and Private Cloud Computing
- Artificial Intelligence
- Science and society
Along with the lectures, the campus includes 2 social events. Where speakers and students will share time together, opening a door to the students to know more about CERN or ask questions related to the school.
Students will be immersed during 4 days in a multicultural environment where all activities, sessions and debates will be in English promoting the interchange of cultures and thoughts.
With the official consent of the vice-rector, all AGH students who take part in Winter CERN Campus 2022 will be exempt from other classes during this time. Their absence from compulsory classes will be considered as excused.
There will also be a hackathon accompanying the lectures and for it, we ask students to bring their own devices (e.g. laptops) to be able to participate at the dedicated sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday.
At the end of the course, a certificate (with indicated workload in ECTS) will be given to the students who successfully attended the sessions.
Depending on the specific course programme at their own university, the students obtaining the certificate may also obtain some ECTS credits, awarded by their respective university. Interested students should submit the proposal to their course coordinator.
