“Diagnostics and Prognostics for Power Electronics Converters in Large-scale Accelerator Facilities”

The power converters of the accelerators are one of the most vulnerable part of the accelerator facilities. Therefore the focus is to enhance the reliability the approximately 5000 power converters (1kW up to 60MW) of CERN. This requires a deep understanding of the different ageing mechanisms of power electronics (semiconductors, capacitors and auxiliary). Different approaches for measurement and data analyses get evaluated to enable an appropriate condition monitoring. Moreover, accelerated ageing tests for components are planned in NTNU laboratories.
