Following the decision taken at the last meeting to investigate an alternative RFQ3 design with an increased 4.5m length (in order to reduce HOM while avoiding to use dipole rods), AL presents preliminary beam dynamics results on this layout, obtained by reducing at the same time the synchronous phase, the modulation and the vane voltage. The solution found presents a length of 4.53m, R0=0.32cm, rho=0.27cm, a minimum aperture of 0.25cm and maximum modulation of 1.5. The vane voltage is 79kV and max Efield 34MV/m (compared to 85kV and 35.5MV/m for the baseline, 3.5m long design). The simulated transmission for a 0.5mm mrad input emittance and 70mA current beam is 93.2% (versus 93.6% for the baseline). AL has also provided an Excel file with vane geometry details for HP to start RF simulations.
