2/3/2022 LNO meeting on Status of Ballistic Optics
News, Rogelio :
---------------
LNO is invited to participate in the (infrequent) LHC Tunnel Region Experiments Working Group (TREX) meetings https://indico.cern.ch/category/5802/
Riccardo and Tobias provided a new bug fix MAD-X version last Friday.
The MEXT expert panel published recommendations for the ILC. It appears unlikely that sufficient funds can be found to built the ILC in Japan. The current sad Russia/Ukraine crisis might have consequences for CERN.
Rogelio reminds to start preparations of IPAC contributions as early as possible, in particular for authors involved in several papers.
FCC-ee lattices in acc models, Michael Hofer
--------------------------------------------
Michael presents a brief update on the work in progress on FCC-ee lattices in acc-models as visible on
https://acc-models.web.cern.ch/acc-models/fcc
and
https://gitlab.cern.ch/acc-models/fcc/fcc-ee-lattice
allowing to download MAD-X scripts and look at twiss parameters.
He encourages us to look at this and provide feedback
Status of 2022 ballistic optics, Leon Van Riesen-Haupt, slides
--------------------------------------------------------------
Leon is updating the ballistic optics for the startup of RUN3. The triplet is turned off in these optics in the interaction points.
These optics are used for alignment and BPM calibration purposes.
Leon also provides a new optics for IR4 where Q5 is off (IR4 has no triplet).
He checked apertures and finds them to be sufficient both at injection and top energy assuming 1mum pilot beams and HL-LHC aperture parameters as specified for HL-LHC. Small deviations in the phase advance compared to standard optics are allowed and can be compensated using the MQTs. Helmut suggested to consider to correct the common b1,b2 tune changes using the main MQ magnets.
At top energy (6.8 TeV), the ballistic optics cannot be reached from the injection optics in all IPs.
Rogelio asks to check which is the largest beta* in IR2, 8 compatible with 6.8 TeV.
Helmut asked if it is really important to reach 6.8 TeV with the alignment optics.
Leon and Rogelio will follow up with OP what is needed and most practical for checks with ballistic optics at or close to top energy.
The next regular LNO meeting is planned in two weeks
