Wednesday 11/05/2022 : Short joint LNO-NDC section meeting with MBX alignment review
LHC MBX alignment status, Jean-Frederic FUCHS (GM-ASG), slides
------------------------
After a brief introduction where Jean-Frederic reminded about the main survey terminology, he focused on the the alignment in the LHC long straight sections around the interaction points and in particular on the superconducting separation dipoles MBX in LSS2 and LSS8 measured both warm during LSSs smoothing and at cold during Arcs smoothing. The MBX in LSS2 have moved in the top direction between these campaigns with major effect on the IP side of the MBX (= DFBX side)
In LSS2, a vertical displacement of + 0.5 mm was observed between the warm measurement on the 16/12/2021 and the alignment at cold of on 8-9 Feb 2022 at cold. The reason for this is not known. This is not seen in LSS8. The vertical alignment is done on the entrance, exit and middle sockets of the magnets. Some magnets have a non-negligible "Banana shape", where the middle point (M socket) is mis-aligned in the top direction and cannot be displaced as the middle part of the magnet is not supported by the jack. This is the case for MBX.4L2 where the middle point is 0.5 mm too high.
Rogelio asks about alignment possibilities in the next end of year technical stop (YETS): for LSS 1,2,5,8 alignment will be measured from Q5 to Q5 (in the cold).
There are ideas to check alignment effects on the beam in MDs towards the end of the year.
News, Rogelio, all :
--------------------
There has been good progress in LHC commissioning, as also reported in yesterdays LBOC meeting. There is now a stop until Wednesday, mainly to complete the LHCb VELO installation. FCC-ee optics tuning and alignment will be discussed later today and tomorrow, see https://indico.cern.ch/event/1153631/ and MAD-X Solenoid, radiation, XSuite developments on Monday 23/5 see https://indico.cern.ch/event/1158218/
The FCC Week 2022 is scheduled from 30 May to 3 June https://indico.cern.ch/event/1064327/ .
Among our contributions will be a presentation on IR solenoid modeling by Helmut using a 3D field map provided by Mike Koratzinos. Rogelio plans to organize a discussion on this subject before the FCC week.
