HDR PI meeting organization #1
We are planning to convene an in-person meeting of Principal Investigators (or your designated representative) for all three categories of awards across the Harnessing the Data Revolution ecosystem:
- Institutes for Data-Intensive Research in Science and Engineering
- Transdisciplinary Research in Principles of Data Science (TRIPODS)
- Data Science Corps (DSC).
The meeting will be held in the The Westin Alexandria Old Town on October 26-27, 2022.

There is support to help :
- Put together PI meetings
- Work towards a re-branding of the HDR towards an outward looking project
-
Covering :
-
TRIPOD: Underlying math and statistics for data analysis
-
Collaborations (institutes) focus on various domains with new computational tools
-
Goal to increase the overall scope and deployment of advanced data usage
-
-
Transition activity towards engaging more people in datas science techniques
-
-
Year 1: Work on how we can connect the various funded awards, and understand the scope of each of the programs
-
How can we engage greater scientific community?
-
Establish cross Institute/TRIPOD/DSC works?
-
-
For PI meeting we should keep 3 things in mind:
-
We should meet and know each other, establish boundary conditions
-
Talk about the cross-activity initiatives and how can we use additional resources
-
Ensure that these activities benefit the whole ecosystem
-
-
Deliversables
-
Coming up with a deliverable of a collective voice?
-
What key advances are the goals of the work?
-
What are the key barriers?
-
-
Perhaps a panel on institutional barriers to data science?
-
-
It's too early to engage students into the PI meeting. However, we will have other activities in the near future to engage students
-
Assign the agenda and list of people within 1 week?
-
Plan to meet at this time slot next week
-
Actions and actvities:
-
Surveying people’s interests before the meeting
-
Use the Survey’s as a guide to drive the discussion
-
In the survey, we get a list of what people are interested in and define the session subjects
-
-
Lightning talks
-
1 ming lightening talk in the PI meeting
-
In addition, we can request 3 minute lighting talk video
-
Videos can be posted in advance of the meeting
-
We can also run the videos during the breaks
-
-
This can help stimulate discussions and match collaborations in the poster session
-
Poster session should be staggered
-
Stack of post notes to link poster
