Item 3b. was added.

No comments on minutes.
3b. Status applications
Norway:
Neither application received any funding from the Research Council of Norway (0+ 0 NOK)
10k CHF for travel money for eventual US exchange was granted to EA from the Fulbright Association.
Finland:
KN/FD received funding for theory studies
- funds for 1.5 graduate student post
- 1 post, 25%-30% teaching + research
KO:
- money for 1 PhD students (electrical break down)
task directly defined within NorduCLIC
- could be linked to 12 GHz Test Stand
- funding for EU project
exchange academia and industry : 5 persons from Finnish industry working in CLIC group, 1 year per person, in sequence. The main topic is production of rf structures. The five different companies specialize in : mech. design, machining, brazing, assembly, materials - target: industrialize structure procurement
- Finland can employ one person 50%, 4 years, to coordinate the - CERN/industry cooperation (Niinikoski)
- Tampere University of Technology: funds one person for 1 year, for industrialization tasks within the CLIC project.
Sweden:
Applied for 6 million SEK
Received 4.1 million SEK.
In principle, there is 3 x 80k EUR for personnel, but in reality all the money is for free disposal (personal, materials)
University overhead: 60k SEK "one-time fee" to the university (according to old Swedish rules)
Expect to hire one Post.Doc.
Swedish estimated post. doc. cost: 80k/year, post.docs. can be hired for 2+2 years, without any risk of "locking him in", if he has less than 3 years of experience after the Ph.D.
The remaining material money: 1/2 of what was expected
Summary of the total missing material money with respect to the funding requested by the common NorduCLIC-application :
* Norway: computer license
* Finland: 240k to procure three accelerating structures
* Sweden: instrumentation for the 12 GHz Test Stand
4.
TE: we need to prioritize on which items we will focus, with the limited material money, with respect to the original NorduCLIC project (part A, B, C).
A: Design
B: Production
C: Test
A) Design
Idea : maybe the Finnish student could work on the design studies
Way for Norway to maintain active presence inf NorduCLIC :
1) strong link with NorduCLIC TBTS and 12TS
2) co-supervision of Finnish student getting into rf design (including learning rf design with the student)
Norway: must see if we can find way to co-supervise a Finnish student
- SS, EA, OL to discuss in internal Norwegian meeting
B)
Idea : CERN pays the structures, made by Finnish/Scandinavian industry, tested by NorduCLIC.
- to be discussed with CERN
C)
Projected material budget in application: 270k
Available: 200k
possible cuts, some preliminary ideas:
- 40k for electronics
- 10k vacuum vessel
What must remain: key test points: "two-color measurement", laser wave, and/or extra rf wave
- VZ will work on final suggestions for cuts by
Proposed : discussions with CERN CLIC personnel on plans for further implementations for the NorduCLIC program : 17/2, starting from 12:30
5. Status of TIARA
Meeting scheduled the 19th of March: "TIARA preparatory board". TE member, representant for the Nordic Countries.
Project will be negotiated with Brussels this spring. Three persons from TIARA will take part in the negotiations.
The preparatory phase project is estimated (TE) to start in May/June. Lasting to 2012. From 2012 the main idea is that TIARA should organize the distributed accelerator infrastructure in Europe.
6. Status of Nordic accelerator development work for ESS
Six work-packages :
- Orsay/Saclay
- INFN
- Tecnica (Spain)
- ESS
- Aarhuus (high-energy beam transfer line, normal conducting magnets and power supplies)
- Uppsala (low-level rf, high power rf generation and transfer, superconducting test-stands)
By April: there must be firm commitments from the institutes.
20 MEUR global cost of what Uppsala has negotiated. ESS: they say can only pay 50% of the development.
Timescale ~4 years from now.
RR: to be technical coordinator of the project.
7. Nordic Research Infrastructure Network- NRIN
Summary Nordic Institutions:
We already applied to NordForsk, NOS-N for NorduCLIC money.
NordForsk: replied: cannot support projects, only networking
NOS-N: no reply
The Nordic Research Infrastructure Network- NRIN
TE: have asked (to Swedish member) what is the "procedure" to become a Nordic Centre of excellence (not immediately)

RR:
Next week Wednesday there will be a special presentation by Ronnie Hoekstra, KVI, on Dutch plans for an XFEL machine. Some of the CLIC technology might
be an excellent fit to realize this project, especially the high gradient
accelerating structures.
Wednesday 10/2, 09:00, 354/1-001.
KO:
What has happened to the plans to contact Aarhus?
They have a Ph.D. student 50% paid by Aarhus, working on QED and beam-beam.
8b. Next meeting
First discussions with CLIC: 17/2, 12:30
NB: After this meeting took place another meeting has been called for, Monday 15/2, 10:00, after signals that CERN CLIC does not see a strong need for new accelerating structure design. This be discussed further at the meeting 15/2.
There are minutes attached to this event.
Show them.
