LHC MD requests for MD1
News:
Tobias + Rogelio : the LHC is in the intensity ramp-up, currently using 600 bunches. One concern is more electron cloud activity than in RUN2 in region 7-8. This will also be discussed in todays LMC meeting.
The deadline for student requests on the group level is Friday this week.
Ewen says there has been an interesting MD in the PS yesterday measuring the machine at an intermediate energy of 10 GeV.
Rogelio: the deadline for student requests on the group level is this Friday.
The main subject of the meeting was a discussion of optics related machine development (MD) subjects, focusing on request for MD1.
A list of all the subjects discussed in this meeting is appended below.
According to the current schedule https://edms.cern.ch/ui/file/2664630/LATEST/2022-LHC-schedule_v1.1.pdf
MD1 is scheduled for 8-11 September, the week before the annual HL-LHC workshop. The deadline for MD1 requests is August 5.
Ewen, shows a slide with subjects also listed below.
Only a small fraction of these will be requested for MD1.
Among the higher priority studies for MD1 are the 2023 optics preparation and a4 studies
Felix proposes studies using ADT kicks and studies aiming at improving the reproducibility of K-modulation measurements.
Tobias proposes single IP squeeze studies, to be able to equalize IP1/5 luminosities in case of a loss of one MQSX magnet.
Thomas proposes to measure amplitude dependent beta-beating (for MD2 or later), see his slide.
Rogelio proposes to document the list of subjects requiring further studies and to document the current level of understanding, including injection, coupling decay at injection, ballistic and 60 degree optics.

NL commissioning: (wait for MD2)
--- tune butterflies / xing scans from further away
--- a4 correction / coupling vs xing
--- ACD DA close to nominal tunes
--- b4 measurement and correction through cycle
--- b6 correction and DA?
3Qy (wait for MD2)
--- better dual beam correction
--- 3Qy decay at inj
--- 3Qy dependence on crossing-angle at inj
--- 3Qy compensation and MO rampdown for emittance growth studies (to be submitted MD1)
--- 3Qy compensation and DA
low action MD missing measurements (already submitted)
--- try amplitude detuning / RDT with ADT
--- measurements at different WP / measure other RDTs at different WP
--- excite very close to 3Qy with ADT
spools / inj NL (already submitted)
--- refining commissioning / RDT / chromatic detuning
--- NL chroma on even larger range
--- individual circuit modulation
--- impact of b5 rdt on DA
--- skew octupoles at injection
Linear
--- ATS-like optics bump in non-ATS arcs -> is the error in arc center every second arc? (Wait for the 2023 optics MD outcome)
--- Terrestrial tides and impact on betabeat? When are the spring tides this year?? Will we actually try for a 12-24hour measurement of this? (understand in simulations)
--- Settup of ultra low emittance pilots in LHC (does this need MD time? Injector MD ?)
Islands (Not MD1)
--- ramp beam in islands
--- pilot emittance growth at injection/ramp
Amplitude dependent betabeat (Not MD1)
--- ADECTA-like measurement with MKA and kmod
--- amplitude dependent SbS
ADECTA (Not MD1)
--- adecta at top energy
--- a4 impact on stabiltiy and DA

Single IP squeeze, motivation is in case we lose one MQSX to deliver equal, but lower, luminosities, or b4 studies. (submission for MD2)
Compensation for the coupling decay (maybe in operation)
Double frequency ADT excitation for tune measurement (Needs work from Martin)
