Description

Points to discuss:

  • Kick-off XTAX WG: mandate
  • Operational cases/configurations
    • Beam & magnet settings
    • Corresponding T4 & XTAX configuration
  • Models
    • Drawings, CATIA, FLUKA

Notes & ACTIONS

Operational aspects about the XTAX

  • H8 TAX (left blocks) shall be consider too in the studies as primary beam can also go there (e.g. if magnets are off beam goes straight to H9 line).
  • XTAX used for expert access to the experimental area, acting as a sort of beam stopper.
  • Different holes in XTAX are used mostly to reduce intensity to the experiments. E.g. Be holes can be used for primary beams.
  • W inserts are used on the small holes to reduce the scattering of absorbed particles.
  • For the future, less holes may be required.
  • Difference between drawing/CATIA position of the holes and ctrls position setting may differ slightly. The later is tuned once in a while (e.g. once/year) by having a set of spills at different positions, e.g. 20 spills with XTAX displacement of 1 mm steps. Can be done at low or higher intensity.
  • Target is also used as safety element. When in beam, it can reduce (xx % ??) of intensity on XTAX.

Other points:

  • Strategies for "passing" the T4 target for high intensity beams can be wobbling the target, blowing up the beam, passing over the plates via dedicated magnets (instead of target movement)
  • Shielding optimization may also be foreseen within the WG

New actions:

  • ACTION EA → To clarify the real functional requirements of the XTAX
  • ACTION STI/EA → To clarify differences between the XTAX CATIA/drawings/FLUKA model on a dedicated meeting
  • ACTION EA → To include Be and W inserts on the 3D models of the XTAX
  • ACTION STI/EA → To clarify the vacuum chamber & windows position and include them in the TCC2 integration model
  • ACTION Johannes Bernhard → To provide a document with the XTAX user cases, particularly a summary of worst operational cases to be considered as well as the corresponding magnetic fields of the magnets upstream and between T4 and XTAX
