Description

Galaxy angular momenta (GAM) are determined by the initial conditions (ICs) in the vicinity of the corresponding protohaloes and have a potential to improve our knowledge of cosmological ICs on Mpc scales. In this talk I will describe our observational efforts studying this correlation. Using ICs determined from SDSS galaxy positions and GAM inferred from the sense of rotation of the spiral arms of spiral galaxies, we are able to measure this correlation with detection significance of around 3σ. With similar significance we detect a correlation between the ICs and GAM inferred from ellipticities of spiral galaxies. Finally, I mention how we use GAM to probe chirality violations in the early Universe.
