BGV x Vacuum

Europe/Zurich

Note: in the slides there is typo of the location, A7L4 was simulated and not A7R4. The BGV orientation is reversed, plots should be flipped.

Important points to discuss:

  • Simulations from Alessio: possibly include conclusion to the Design Report (DR)?

  • Considering that BQK will be removed, is there enough space for sectorisation? Would it be preferred? Yes, although its absence is not a showstopper.
    • If so, how much would it cost? ~40kCHF per sector valve (including sector valve + pump + gauges + control system) + probably some chambers to change to adjust length + coat them and bake them out... total probably in the order of 200kCHF.
    • If not, how much of a worry is it (how should this be stated in the DR)? How often is this sector usually vented with the other equipment in place?

Giuseppe highlighted that the displacement of BQKH and V hasn't been officially announced. The layout should be first validated before estimating if there is enough space for sectorisation (consider ~800mm longitudinal for a sector valve).

  • While the detector will be in place, it will be impossible to bake the B2 chamber near B1-BGV. The tracker should be unmounted to perform the bakeout. Is it a worry (how often would B2 chamber need to be baked-out)?

Bake-out jackets can be removed after bake-out.

  • What type of gauge would be installed on the tank? Ideally: try to keep it out of the survey reserved space (current solution for the demo: 90 deg elbow)

Not discussed.

  • What ancillaries are required by VSC (place needed, for bake-out equipment and pumps: required power, is it sufficient at the new location -> contact EN-EL: Nuno Dos Santos)

Not discussed.

  • How much longitudinal free space should be kept at the interface between the BGV and neighbour equipments?

Not discussed.

  • Estimate cost of repurposing 1 x BGI gas injection systems for BGV + cost of 4 ion pumps if none available

The left BGI system was relocated to the BGC, and the right BGI one was moved to the surface during LS2, to avoid radiations. Refurbishing this system + the one of the demonstrator, which will be 10-15 years old in 2028 is quite some work to update control systems. It might be smarter to consider new systems.
