Design of magnets for ALBA II 1h 30m

After more than 10 years in operation, ALBA is taking the first steps towards a complete renewal of its main accelerator in order to decrease its electron beam emittance by a factor 30. This emittance reduction will transform the facility into a 4th generation light source, in which the soft X-ray part of the spectrum will be diffraction limited, thus enabling new experimental techniques that will take profit of the enhanced coherence of the photon beam. The current plan is that the upgraded facility, that will be named ALBA II, will start operation for users around 2031.
Insertion Devices group at ALBA has been given the responsibility of designing, procuring and characterizing the magnets for the new accelerator. In order to face this challenge the group has undergone a complete reorganization, including the recruiting of new members. In this seminar we will present the requirements of ALBA II magnets as well as the criteria that are guiding their design. We will also describe the prototyping strategy together with the initial ideas for the procurement plan.
