Drupal maintenance in case of power outage or black-out
- Tim reviewed the scenarios for an unplanned outage of the CERN data centre and the impact on the Drupal infrastructure (it would go down).
- Tim will see with the folk setting up the Mattermost-Backup system which is independent of the CERN infrastructure so that an area for communications with Comms and IT Drupal infrastructure.
- (Added after the meeting) Could an egroup be set up such as mattermost-backup-users-ir-eco for those who would like an invite ?
- There is a bulletin article in preparation regarding the potential supply issues over the winter. Tim will get in touch with James to see where the recommendation for the user community to follow the IT Service Status can be placed.
- Much of the traffic to the .cern pages comes to home.cern. directory.cern is also widely used. These could potentially be replaced by a static web site with simple contents.
- Given the pressure on the networking team in the event of an outage, it would be best if the number of sites in .cern to change would be small. SWITCH provide the off-site infrastructure for our name servers so a change could be made there even if the CERN infrastructure was unavailable.
- Tim will check with the IT web infrastructure folk on the preferred way to host a replacement home.cern static page and potentially a more detailed page for computing specialists in the organisation to get more detailed information such as MM backup links.
- Comms will prepare a draft text for the web page along with some pre-prepared social media content which could be used in the event of an outage.
