Description

Abstract

Vector Boson Scattering is an important test bench for the electroweak sector, as it represents a powerful probe of quartic gauge interactions. Andrew Levin will discuss the experimental aspects of isolating Wgamma scattering based on the CMS analysis of Run 2 data recently reported in arXiv:2212.12592. Ilaria Brivio will then discuss how this and other VBS measurements are interpreted in the context of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory and in the EFT of Axion-Like Particles.

Speakers:

Andrew Levin completed his Ph.D. degree at MIT in 2017 and worked on the first observation of the electroweak same-sign WWjj process using data collected by CMS in 2016. After that, he has been a postdoctoral researcher with Peking University, and has been working on various multiboson analyses and a Majorana neutrino analysis, also based on data collected by CMS. In addition to physics analysis, his other roles in CMS have included computing operations tasks and the commissioning of the gas electron multiplier detector.

Ilaria Brivio obtained her PhD from the Universidad Autonoma in Madrid. She then held postdoctoral positions at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen and at the University of Heidelberg, before becoming assistant professor at the University of Zurich and at the University of Bologna, where she's currently based. Her research explores phenomenological applications of Effective Field Theories to new physics searches, including studies of Higgs and EW processes at LHC in the context of SMEFT, HEFT and the EFT of axion-like particles. She was actively involved in the VBSCan COST action and she's currently a convener of the LHC EFT WG.
