Towards universal decomposition of phase-space integrals

The difficulty of constructing universal subtraction schemes for NNLO QCD calculations suggests exploring alternative approaches to combining virtual and real-emission contributions.  In this talk, I present initial steps towards decomposing phase-space integrals in a basis of master integrals.  Such a basis would parallel the one used in virtual contributions.  I will show how to use techniques from computational algebraic geometry to partial-fraction real-emission amplitudes in a systematic way.
