What if humanity could start everything from scratch? What would we do differently?
In CBI Terraforming, we are lifting our lenses from Earth and traveling to an earth-like exoplanet to envision how a society might function there with a focus on access to clean water for all. This includes designing your travel there, considering who and what you will be bringing with you, the survival phase at landing, and how you will be able to establish a first sustainable settlement on this exoplanet.
By making order of magnitude calculations and systemic impact assessments, you will be able to look at societal systems in a holistic and comprehensive manner. This perspective will allow you to consider possible ripple effects or unintended consequences of your actions and ideas. This is a learning you will bring with you back to Planet Earth as we consider how our solutions could be implemented to the Earth systems, both in a short and long term perspective.
In these two weeks, you will experience exponential thinking, be challenged to think beyond the status quo, and collaborate, ideate and prototype solutions to complex problems. You will also visit CERN facilities such as the Antimatter Factory, CERN’s computing center and CMS, the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment in the LHC (depending on availability). Additionally, you will have the chance to interact with CERN personnel and discover more about how physicists push the frontiers of science.
Terraforming is the future flag-ship program of CERN IdeaSquare. In particular, this is the second ever pilot of the course, so we will be running our own experiments with the modules as well.

Who can participate?
Anyone passionate about:
- Thinking on a global scale.
- Understanding, simplifying and working within complex systems.
- Respecting planetary boundaries and constraints.
- Finding resourceful and meaningful ways to create solutions.
** DISCLAIMER **
Please be aware that this event is a pilot.
This means that the schedule, as well as its individual components, are still very much subject to change and the focus of the pilot lies on generating feedback and testimonials for the Terraforming activity.
This event works on a first come first served basis and it is limited to 20 participants. Registrations close on the 17th April.
Registration is mandatory in order to get access to the CERN premises.

Directions and how to get Wifi on site
Directions on how to get to CERN you can find here: https://home.cern/directions
When on CERN site, you can find the meeting venue IdeaSquare behind the Globe, across what is now the Science Gateway parking construction site. Walk past the Globe, through a gate in the fence, turn left, and you'll find IdeaSquare.
For registering your laptop/mobile phone for wifi access at CERN, please fill in a request here: http://cern.ch/registerVisitorComputer - and use Catarina Batista as the CERN contact person (on the last page of the request form).
