Different innovation processes, why regular methods are not enough for radical change;
Story behind the concept of Terraforming;
What are the expectations for the week?
Why are we leaving planet Earth?
Where are we going?
Introduction to first challenge: Establish a sustainable water system for your settlement.
Overall picture of what materials you want to import (fulfilling basic human needs, ensuring long term continuity of the settlement) to Planet X.
People and skills that are needed for the mission to your chosen planet.
Awe inspiring, exponential, zooming out, daring, reconcidering assumptions, cool crazy scientist guy
Did our plan work?
What are the consequences?
Do we want to iterate our decisions?
Reflection and Information for tomorrow
What form will your society take?
What are the fundamental rights?
What are the things required from settlers?
What can settlers expect from the society?
How do you define equality?
Who has right to water / who is responsible of there being water / maintaining the system / how are violations prevented etc.
Designing the water system / mapping stakeholders, resources and impacts around the water system - the general way in which the system should function
Pablo will be coming to work with the two teams to discuss the impacts of these solutions
Introducing prototyping: why, how, what, and when to prototype. Here it is not to test functionality, but rather to communicate and visualise the system and based on that refine the idea. "Table top prototype" Idea is most likely to prototype a system.
As the goal of this prototyping exercise is to visualize and communicate and to help you to udnerstand your own ideas better, we are hoping to see several prototypes. Your final prototype on Friday can be entirely built on Friday, and you do not even need to have just one final prototype, it can be several.
Where are you landing? What are the mismatches, tensions between the two planets and their societies? Document your understanding of the problems.
Map of stakeholders, resources, impacts and highlighting the tensions between the two planets and societies.
Compare planet X and planet Earth.
Extract principles from the differences.
Sharing in rotation with the other teams.
E.g: "In planet X the water system was so much better because there was an equitable distribution of resources"
At least 5 different more refined ideas on what your water system would be like
Prepare a booth to showcase your concept (low-fi/paper prototyping when decorating the booth and yourselves)
No slides: show, don’t tell: role playing, etc.
Description of the scenario/context where this solution will exist
Show your solution prototype
Problem you are solving
Expected impact of solution
