WWFPC meeting #6

Europe/Zurich
Description

World Wide Fundamental Power Coupler meeting #5.

The following topics will be discussed:

  • Design: maximum power per coupler ?
  • multi coupler per cavity ?
  • Construction: choice of material and of techniques of construction, coating
  • Series production: fabrication, cleaning, handling and assembly
  • Series production by industrials: modification of the processes, industrial alternative proposals, ...
  • Cleaning and assembly: which clean room is really needed ? For FPC alone? For FPC onto cavity?
  • Tests: prototype processes versus series processes, RF test boxes, amplifiers for tests
  • Statistics of couplers operated in accelerators
  • Diagnostics during R&D and prototyping, versus diagnostics during operation in accelerators
  • Degradation of characteristic over time of operation.

All participants can also list specific topics on which they would be interested of having some answers from others, or that could be interesting R&D for others.

      FPC activities at DESY 1h

progress since 2019, our last meeting. We went through FLASH linac upgrade with two new accelerating modules assembled twice and successful FPC movers upgrade on an old module. Plans for the Eu-XFEL CW/HDC (high duty-cycle
operation) being solidified and defined, which means also different operation mode for the FPC. We finally put the FPC test stand into the operation at DESY in the AMTF hall. We can test 4 FPCs simultaneously and did 2 tests each with 1 pair, so that test-stand is fully operational now. Currently we testing a module with modified FPC on CMTB in CW/HDC mode up to 4kW per cavity with an IOT and it is still going well on FPCs, as on cavities. We prepare still another test in AMTF hall with another module and plan to do CW/HDC single cavity test with SSA source.
