      Preparation of SC23 demos and DC24 mini-challenges 20m

Presents: Bruno Hoeft, Edoardo Martelli, Asif Shah, Karl Newell, Doug Sothworth, Tom Lehman, Andy Lake, Diego Davila, Shawn Mckee, Laurent Duflot, Joe Mambretti, Harvey Newman, Carmen Misa, Bill Johnston, Tristan Sullivan, Jim Chen, Yatish Kumar, Pieter  de Boer, Thomas Tam, Dale Carder, Phil Demar, Laurent Duflot

      *DC24*
      - Mario Lassnig has created a repository where we can put out projects for DC24: https://cernbox.cern.ch/files/link/public/aClTXJenZxpF5qw
      - Mario also wrote:
CERNBox supports online editable documents, so please feel free to write your documents directly in here. You can also upload PDFs of externally written documents.
Important: Please make sure you send a quick email to wlcg-doma@cern.ch to notify the community that a new document has been uploaded.
The contents of the documents should include the following minimum information:
Description: Provide a brief description of what the project will seek to accomplish during DC24 including planned benefits, scope, and how to evaluate success. Mention the main contact person.
Work:  Provide a description of the research and development that is necessary to be successful. Whenever details are important don't hesitate to include them. Mention all potential external blockers and/or dependencies outside your control.
Timeline: Provide one or more dates where a specific goal, mini-challenge, or deliverable will be completed. Mention who will be tasked with ensuring the work is completed.
Metrics: Describe the metrics that will be gathered to enable evaluation of the work and its benefits and the source of the metrics.

      - Deadline to submit the proposal is the 31st of August (before the next DOMA general meeting)
      - Mario gave an update on DC24 at the last GDB where he announced the dates of DC24: Feb 26 to March 8 , 2024
      - He has also announced a DC24 workshop to be held at CERN on the 9-10 of November 2023
      - https://indico.cern.ch/event/1225114/contributions/5476124/attachments/2682805/4654196/WLCG%20DOMA%20News%20and%20Status%20-%20GDB%20072023.pdf
      - Shawn will put a draft of the challenges he knows which can be later updated
      - Yatish reports that it is now possible to run queries on the fireflies that are stored in the ESnet database. Yatish is available to discuss any possible use of that data.
      - Shawn suggests to use it to give feedback to the experiments about their use of the network. This is one of the primary use cases for flow marking
      - Harvey suggests the data should also be used by the service providers to improve the architecture of the services and their integration with the network. How the experiment are sharing and how to give fair sharing. We need to identify bottlenecks, understand what will be the impact of new flows.
      - Yatish reminds that the measurements are done at the edge of the Esnet network, not in the core.
      - Shawn suggests also that in this contest, the flow data will also be used to monitor the activities of DC24
      - Shawn reports there is an on-going parfSONAR upgrade campaign. He hopes the site will upgrade to version 5 during the summer.

      *SC23*
Harwey reports there are many NREs presented. Scinet people have regular meetings for the preparation.
JoeM reports that  beside HL-LHC there are other instruments coming on-line that will need the same level of network services (DUNE, SKA...) . Their requirement are not the same, so they will need effort to follow them up properly

      RNTWG 20m

      - The Working group is now focusing on packet pacing.
      - Dale, Tim, Shawn and Marian have written a RFC draft that will be presented to the upcoming IETF (next week).  Opposition is expected by the IETF, but there is always the possibility to publish it as a documentation of the use of the flowlabel field.
      - Draft: https://www.ietf.org/archive/id/draft-cc-v6ops-wlcg-flow-label-marking-02.html
      - Shawn reports that the WG is also working with the developers of the WLCG appliaction to get the flow marking implemented
