Description
Examining the motivations and influences impacting undergraduate student program choice not only assists physics departments in recruitment efforts but also enables the development of curricula tailored to meet the needs and interests of students. In our 2003 first-year physics courses at the University of Guelph, science majors participated in a survey exploring the diverse motivations and influences shaping their choice of undergraduate program. Two decades later, we have conducted the same survey, to assess whether the perspectives of undergraduate students have evolved. We incorporated additional questions to delve into the development of student physics identity at various points in their educational journey. We will discuss comparisons between students from 2003 and 2023, with attention given to gender and majors in the physical- and biological-sciences.
