Description
Culture is a way of learning and therefore determine student career interest and performance. In Nigeria, the females are often regarded as the weaker sex and therefore need to choose careers not met for men. This results to gender inequality especially in the science and related discipline. The purpose of this study is to determine the cultural effect of gender on the admission and performance of physics students in six selected universities from the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. The simple statistical analysis showed that female to male admission ratio overwhelmingly favour males. On performance, however, the performance of the female students did not show any gender difference. The cultural effects on the difference in gender admission and its non-significant effects on performance are discussed.
