Description

Abstract:
Vector-like quarks are predicted by multiple theories of new physics beyond the Standard Model, and an intense experimental effort is undergoing to observe them at the LHC. In this cross-talk we will discuss their main theoretical motivations, the current status of experimental searches and key phenomenological aspects which can drive future investigations.

Trisha Farooque is a Research Associate at Michigan State University, working on the ATLAS experiment. She obtained her PhD from the University of Toronto and has previously worked at the Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE) in Spain. Her research focuses on searches for new physics signatures in final states containing third-generation quarks. She also works on studies of the substructure of hadronic jets, and on techniques for the identification of boosted hadronic objects.

Luca Panizzi graduated at the University of Florence (Italy) and did the PhD at the University of Trieste (Italy). Subsequently he has done a series of postdocs in Europe, the most significant being at the IPNL Lyon (now IP2I) (France), University of Southampton (UK) and Uppsala University (Sweden). He is currently a researcher at the Universita' della Calabria, in Italy. During his career he has worked on the phenomenology of new physics beyond the SM at collider covering various aspects, the most important of which are signatures of vector-like particles, new exotic scalars and dark matter candidates. He has worked directly on a few CMS searches and he is currently collaborating with ATLAS on a VLQ search.
