Technical Specs
Gas Injection
- Marco says that gas injection/pressure bump should be fine
- Vacuum should be 10e-6 (ideally 10e-07) after the pressure bump
- Nitrogen may be ideal because they already use it in their accelerator
Number of Ionised Electrons
- Marco didn’t have strong convictions about what he wants/needs to see with the BGI (e.g. tail distributions, just mean position etc.)
- Said to aim for ~1200 counts (this is what was given as standard)
Mechanical Parameters
- MBGI should be ideally 0.5 m in length - should be no more than 1 m long
- More small/compact is better
Plan Going Forward
Prototype
- Design prototype as if it is going into the new experimental beamline
- Organize another meeting once conceptual design(s) are done, to discuss with CNAO
- Test prototype in the experimental room at CNAO
Other Considerations
- What is the initial energy and angular velocity spread of ionisation electrons? Does IPM account for this?
