Follow-up from previous meetings

  • Last BildX 4 weeks ago (Aug 31st): https://indico.cern.ch/event/1311075/
    • pres by Simon about CWL. Well received, with several comments
    • question is how to go from here?
  • DiracX hackathon on 4th/5th September: https://indico.cern.ch/event/1304626/
    • 10 developers attended (new: Luisa+Natthan).
    • Not many discussions, mostly “head down and code”. Progress in many aspects though.
      • We also now have a stub of DiracX extension
    • Realizing one by one all fixes that needs to be done to DIRAC first (not only refactoring).
      • so, several PRs for DIRAC too

Specific topics

CWL

  •  Simon M We still need this “JDL thing” for describing resources (might not be called JDL)
    • JDL equivalent in pydantic (JobModel)
  •  Andrei Discussions during the hackathon if CWL could be used for production request description, but probably not. It has to be seen if dynamic resolution of input files is a possibility for the language.
  •  Luisa will investigate further
  • In general: the first version of DiracX will still use JDLs (or will anyway still need to understand them).

WebApp

  •  Alexandre presented a prototype for DiracX Web (the presentation, which includes a link to a video showing the Web in action) is attached to the agenda. The prototype is based on some well known and widely used technologies (NextJS, React, TypeScript, Material UI).
    •  Andrei we need to carefully choose these technologies as we’ll depend on them for many years now
      •  Bertrand I see nothing wrong with what was chosen
      •  Alexandre + Christopher they are widely used and nowadays kind of “obvious” choices
      •  Federico this should be presented in 3 weeks at the workshop: if there are no objections in the next 10 days, then we’ll go with this tech stack
    •  Federico the end developer should just need to know how to add/modify a page/app.
      •  Chris^2 adding one could be well be an hackathon exercise – only candidate for now is the user profile page
    •  Federico we should also show a diracx-web extension
    • https://github.com/DIRACGrid/diracx-web has been created.

DiracX

  •  Chris^2 For both DiracX and DiracX-charts we are actively working for having a demo (by the workshop) through which jobs can be submitted – this includes ongoing work for the sandbox.
  • There’s also a lot of groud work being done
  • Added support for OpenSearch DBs

Discussions https://github.com/DIRACGrid/diracx/discussions

  • Many of the discussions that are addressing design choices should be relaunched now

  • Next DiracX hackathon will be during the workshop (19th Oct)
  • Next BildX Oct 26th

AOB

Simon Mazenoux ends his contract this week. He has been with us (LHCb, as a DiracGrid developer) for, in total, around 12 months, and made several excellent contributions. Big thanks to him, and good luck for the future. It has been a pleasure to work with him.

There are minutes attached to this event. Show them.
