Draft:
Participants: James, Pierre, Dominique, William, Gunn
- Dominique presented alternative solution: instead of permanent magnet, to use existing 0.7T solid yoke magnets (MDXL ?), there are 35 of them spare.
- Link to the database of magnets: https://norma-db.web.cern.ch/magdesign/idcard/1905/
- These magnets are based on single iron yoke (instead of thin iron sheet stacked, this affects speed of eddy currents when switching the magnets )
- Looks like the overall external dimention of the magnet is smaller slightly than the existing magnets in LHC for the BGI
- The magnets are then cheap but there is still cost for power converter and the long leadtime (SY-EPC, Gill to confirm on voltage/current)
- We may even be able to use triplet configuration if necessary (Dominique will check the offset in proton beam due to doublet)
- William will do some studies of instrument fitting in the magnet bore (mechanical integration)
- Gunn will do Virtual IPM simulation to check if the field homogeniety is good enough
- We agreed to meet in a month for a followup
