Optical fibre sensors are a disruptive technology providing unique capabilities, highly complementary to conventional sensing systems. The talk summarizes the distinct features of this class of sensors and their potential impact in addressing specific challenges CERN-wide. Two recent developments from the Engineering Department are presented, demonstrating the successful combination of the engineering design with current scientific advancement. Insights into prospective work in this field are also provided.
