Over 50 years ago, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) emerged as the fundamental description of the strong nuclear interactions. Another major milestone was the formulation in 1974 of the large N limit of QCD where the planar Feynman diagrams make the dominant contributions. This exhibited a connection of QCD with weakly coupled string theory, which has stimulated a great deal of research for 50 years. The workshop "Confining Strings" will survey the recent progress in the ongoing research on quark confinement, with an emphasis on the dynamics of confining strings and the 1/N expansions. The workshop will be co-sponsored by the Simons Collaboration on Confinement and QCD Strings.

3. The accomodation has been arranged by the organizers. You will be staying in one of the following hotels (the information will be given later on):
- Hotel Les Sources: this is where the SwissMAP Research Station is located
- Les Lilas: located at about 10 mn walking distance from the SwissMAP Research Station
- Auberge de la Poste: located at about 5 mn walking distance from the SwissMAP Research Station
All three hotels are within easy walking distance from the train station in Les Diablerets.
