Description

The Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment is under construction at the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Darmstadt, Germany. It aims to explore the phase structure of strong interaction (QCD) matter at large net-baryon densities and moderate temperatures by means of heavy-ion collisions in the energy range sqrt(s_NN) = 2.9 - 4.9 GeV.

CBM is a fixed-target experiment, equipped with fast and radiation hard detector systems and an advanced triggerless data acquisition scheme. The CBM will collect data at interaction rates of up to 10 MHz by performing online reconstruction and event selection, thus allowing measurements of rare probes not accessible so far with such precision in this energy range. Among them: multi-strange hadron production and their flow, event-by-event fluctuations and correlations, di-leptons, as well as double-strange hypernuclei.

This contribution will overview the CBM physics goals and detector technologies developed for the experiment. The status of preparations towards CBM commissioning in 2028, including performance evaluation of the CBM components at FAIR Phase-0 experiments, will be presented.

Coffee will be served at 10:30.
