Description
We have developed a new method to image a charged particle beam with a high dynamic range. This method employs any optical radiation which is linearly proportional to the beam charge density, e.g. OTR, OSR, phosphor light, etc. and a spatial filter created with a digital micro-mirror device. We have used this method to image the halo of the 10 KeV electron beam at the University of Maryland Electron Ring and to measure the spatial distribution of the 135 MeV electron beam at the JLAB FEL facility with a dynamic range ~ 10(5). We discuss the characteristics of the method, recent experimental results and plans to further develop this technique.
